The Classic Rubber Chicken
We don't know why it was a joke back in the day, but here you have it. It's a rubber chicken! Ha!
The usage of the rubber chicken as a prop in comedic acts goes all the way back to Vaudeville times. We looked around for the exact origination but couldn't find anything. Suffice to say that it's one of those things like blues music that you can't quite put a finger on, but for some reason just became a thing and many people started using rubber chickens.
The Loftus Novelty Supply Company in Salt Lake City is the only U.S. manufacturer of rubber chickens. The rubber chicken is ther mascot.
Here are some classic "Why did the chicken cross the road" jokes:
Q: Why did the chicken cross the road halfway?
A: She wanted to lay it on the line.
Q: Why did the rubber chicken cross the road?

Q: Why did the Roman chicken cross?
A: She was afraid someone would caesar!
Q: How did the wealthy rubber chicken cross the road?
A: In her Cadillac stretch limo.
